Scholarship
There are many academic awards and fellowships available for students interested in study abroad programs. With advance planning and research, you can apply and may be eligible to receive scholarships, fellowships and/or grants available to offset the costs of study abroad.
Scholarships, Fellowships, Grants and Other Financial Funding Resources
- Students must be a recipient of a Federal Pell Grant to apply
- The program length needs be for at least 14 days in a single country
- Must be eligible for credit from HCC

Center for International Education Study Abroad Scholarship
Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the time of the application deadline
Be a degree-seeking student at Hillsborough Community College
Be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at the time of application
- Students must be a U.S. Citizen applying for the program focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security.
- Summer program scholarship is available to STEM students applying for a study abroad program lasting 8 weeks or longer.
Funds can be used for Florida state school sponsored programs to pay for in-state tuition.
If you have a Florida Prepaid College Program, you can use those funds to pay for the regular tuition rate for a study abroad course. These funds cannot be used for any additional program costs or lab fees.
Freeman Awards for study in Asia (Freeman-Asia) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
- Must be an undergraduate student with a minimum GPA of 2.8
- Must have at least one term of enrollment remaining at the home institution upon returning from studying abroad
- The proposed length of study must be a minimum of 8 weeks for a summer and 12 weeks for a semester
Deadline: April (Application opens in February) for Summer, Fall, and Spring
- Students must plan to study abroad for a minimum of 4 weeks for credit-bearing program.
- Preference given to first-generation college students, minority students, and community college students.

HCC students eligible for
FAFSA can apply for the Foundation Scholarship.
The Hispanic College Fund reaches out to Latino college students in need.
Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad.
Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher
- Students must be 25 years old or younger
- Two scholarships with a maximum of $1,000 each to the selected winner.
- Scholarships are designed to help support a deserving student male or female in an international study opportunity.
- Applications and requested documentation are due in October of every year.
